Hundreds of advocates and community leaders participated in the “Keep the Promise on HIV/AIDS” March and Rally on 11/3/2012 in Centennial Park. The event was the second in a series calling on officials to commit to stopping AIDS - and featured a performance by celebrated gospel singer James Fortune. Joining him on stage was actor and rapper Tray Chaney of HBO’s “The Wire,” with a new song about accepting others and putting an end
to bullying. R&B singer Monica and Ebony Steele of the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show” served as hosts.
L.A. Heroes Changing the World and The AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) at a time when the disease was decimating L.A.’s gay population. Weinstein has been repeatedly lauded for his efforts in providing medical and advocacy services to more than 180,000 people in 26 countries, and he is now celebrated in the new book titled “Everyday Heroes: 50 Americans Changing the World One Nonprofit at a Time”, published by Welcome Books. Following months of protests and actions, including a boycott of all Hershey’s candy, AIDS Healthcare Foundation cheers the news that the Milton Hershey School has reversed its illegal HIV/AIDS blacklist and offered admission to the HIV-positive student it rejected, calling the reversal: “a mortal blow against AIDS stigma and discrimination.” http://huff.to/NxsXd6
Musician and humanitarian Wyclef Jean has joined the “Keep the Promise” AIDS March on Washington as the headliner on July 22nd in Washington D.C.
The March will take place on the opening day of the International AIDS Conference - in the U.S. for the first time in 20 years.
